What Sheen Level Should I Choose?
FLAT: |
Sometimes called Matte. Diffuses light, so it tends to conceal surface imperfections better than paints with higher sheen levels. As a result, it is the choice for general use on walls and ceilings, especially those that are dented or rough. Colors appear less intense in a flat finish than a glossier finish. |
EGGSHELL: |
Sometimes called Low Sheen. This finish will resist stains better than flat paint. It has more scrub cycles, and is commonly used in high traffic areas. Excellent for walls.
SATIIN: walls/surface should be in good shape as satin tends to show more imperfections because of the higher sheen level. Very durable finish. |
EXTERIOR SATIN: |
Reflects the UV rays and creates more of a “coating” on your surface. It allows one to rinse the home clean…after 3-4 years satin turns into flat. You simply get more wear out of satin paint. |
SEMI-GLOSS: |
Most interior doors and trim are painted with semi-gloss. These types of finishes offer good stain resistance are easy to clean, so they are especially popular among families with young children. Very durable and classy shine. Also suggested for garage area. |
GLOSS: |
Highly reflective smooth surface. Gloss paints are generally the toughest, most durable and most stain-resistant type of paint. |
